Drug Treatment There are drugs that can ease BPH-related problems. The medicine alleviates the symptoms, but in many cases the improvement is only temporary. Certain patients experience very good effects, while others note only a small improvement or none at all. Problems that can result from treatment:
Surgery Operation via the urethra, Transurethral Resection of the Prostate, TURP. The operation is carried out using a tube with an optical device that is inserted in the urethra. An electrical coil burns away parts of the prostate. This operation usually requires a 3 - 7 day stay in hospital. If the prostate is considerably enlarged and a TURP is not enough, there is an invasive operation which is a more complicated procedure. An incision is made through the abdominal wall and the nodes in the prostate are removed. Problems that can result from surgery:
Non-Surgical Prostate Treatment using CoreTherm™ Microwave CoreTherm™ is an advanced form of microwave thermotherapy. The problem causing parts of the prostate are heated up to 50° using microwaves transmitted through a treatment catheter that is inserted via the urethra. These microwaves destroy the tissue, thus enabling normal urinary flow to resume. CoreTherm™ has enhanced this method by developing a temperature sensor, which checks that the right temperature and therefore the right effect are obtained during treatment. This procedure takes as little as 10—20 minutes, and can be carried out at a hospital or doctor's office. The patient goes home right after the treatment. CoreTherm™ has a success rate of over 80% and very low risk for complication. Problems that can result from treatment:
